Looking to buy a phone? Wait for October 17

Planning to buy a new premium phone this Diwali, or within the next several weeks? Maybe you will want to wait for the OnePlus 6T — a phone that is expected to launch in October in India. Just like the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 6T will also be a high-end phone with top components, and probably similarly aggressive price that makes OnePlus 6 one of the best smart phones in the market. Already a number of details about the OnePlus 6T have been leaked, and it seems that OnePlus is hoping to put some cutting edge — and totally futuristic — technologies in this phone.

A few days ago, the retail box of the OnePlus 6T was leaked. It showed that the OnePlus 6T will come with a fingerprint sensor embedded under the screen. This feature is unique and currently available in just 4 odd phones – two of them made by Oppo and two by Vivo. Phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the next iPhone in 2019 are likely to get this feature next year. But OnePlus, in an email to CNET, confirmed that in-display fingerprint sensor is coming in the OnePlus 6T.

The feature is likely to be marketed with tagline “Unlock the Speed”. So it seems that OnePlus is confident that the in-display fingerprint sensor will work as well as the regular sensor.

— To accommodate the in-display sensor, the OnePlus 6T is going be thicker by 0.45mm compared to the OnePlus 6, this too has been confirmed by the company to CNET.

— Another unique feature that is almost certain to be a part of the OnePlus 6T is its display that will have a tiny water drop notch. Currently only 2 or 3 phones have this kind of notch. This too has been confirmed by the leaked retail box.

— Just like the existing OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 6T will also come with features like fast face unlocking, Dash Charging and camera that offers portrait mode.

— This one is a rumor but chances are that this is going to come true: OnePlus 6T will have 3 rear cameras. Two of these cameras are likely to be regular cameras, but the third one may use camera hardware and a sensor that will be used to create 3D images or augmented reality. If OnePlus 6T indeed comes with this camera setup, it will be the first mainstream phone to have such a feature.

— In terms of design and looks, the OnePlus 6T is expected to be similar to the OnePlus 6. At least this is what the pattern has been. So far we have seen that the T variant of the OnePlus phone follows the original flagship from the company for that year. Both OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 5T shared their design with the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 5 respectively.

Right now there is nothing official about the specs of the OnePlus 6T, but given how OnePlus plays it – high-end component and top specs – here is what we expect.

— Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor

— Up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB internal storage

— 16-megapixel primary camera, accompanied by at least one more rear camera. Two additional cameras in case the rumors of triple-camera setup are real. On the front, there seems to be only one 20-megapixel camera in the OnePlus 6T.

— Oxygen OS based on Android 9 Pie. In other words, the stock and clean version of latest Android fortified with some unique OnePlus features.

The starting price of the OnePlus 6T is going to be either Rs 34,999 or Rs 37,999 in India. In the last two months, there has been some serious competition to the OnePlus 6 in the market. So chances are that OnePlus will bring next flagship, that is OnePlus 6T, without any increase in the price, although do keep in mind that rupee is very weak against dollar right now and if it falls further, then irrespective of what OnePlus wants, the OnePlus 6T may come into the market at slightly higher price of around Rs 37,999.
