Homemade malvani masala gives this curry a special flavor. If you like fish and spicy food then it is specially for you.
. Surmai fish (King Fish) -250 gm
. Red Chillies – 7-8
. Cloves – 2 pieces
. Poppy seeds – 3 tsp
. Red chili powder – 1 tsp
. Oil – 1 tsp
. Coconut, paste – 1 cup
. Triphala – 5
. Cinnamon – 2 pieces
. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
. Kokams – 4
. Salt-to taste
1.Wash the fish well.
2.To make malvani masala, heat pan or wok and lower flame. Roast trifala, cloves, cinnamon, poppy seeds and red chilies until they become fragrant and crisp. Once it is done, transfer all spices to a plate and allow them to cool.
3.After the spices come to room temperature, grind them using mixer to fine powder. This is a homemade malvani masala.
4.Heat oil in a pan; add chopped onion and sauté till oil leaves from the sides. Add the coconut paste and cook on high heat for a minute.
5.Add grinded malvani masala to it and stir it well.
6.Add 1 cup of water, kokam and salt and bring the gravy to a boil.
7.After the gravy starts boiling add fish pieces and cook on medium heat for 5-6 minutes.8.Serve hot with steamed rice.
